Planetary path Uetliberg–Felsenegg
The Planet Trail from the Uetliberg to Felsenegg is a hiking trail on the Albis. The trail leads from the SZU terminus at Uetliberg to Staffel, Annaburg, past the Falätschen slope via Mädikon to the Felsenegg station of the Adliswil-Felsenegg aerial tramway and via Felsenegg to Buchenegg. The hike takes about two hours. The Planetary path was designed by Arnold von Rotz and opened on April 26, 1979.
Understanding the solar system
Hiking as a way to learn.
The Planetary path is arranged at a scale of 1:1 billion, which makes it possible to compare the sizes and distances in the solar system. One meter of the model corresponds to one million kilometers in the real solar system. It includes not just the known planets Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune, but also the dwarf planets Ceres and Pluto.
The sun model is a yellow globe on a mast and stands along the path to the UTO KULM just behind the terminus of the SZU. The models of the planets are on boulders of the Linth or Reuss glaciers. The smaller planets were encased in glass and embedded in a niche of the boulder while the larger planets were mounted on the boulder’s tip. A plaque for each planet provides information about its position in the solar system and additional facts, such as the diameter of the equator, rotation speed, orbital speed, orbital length, etc.
